Founder & Bookkeeper
Lenay Johnson
Lenay has been a bookkeeper for 50 years. She has owned her own business for 45 years. The first 13 years she worked out of her home part-time while raising her family. The last 30 years she has maintained an office outside of the home full-time and has grown the business into what it is today. She is the backbone of what makes us, us, and is the matriarch of the Better Bookkeeping family.

Catherine Hauptmann
Cathy, Lenay's daughter-in-law, has been a bookkeeper for 25 years. She worked in the firm from 1997 - 2008. Cathy took a leave of absence to follow her husband's military service in California. After moving back home to Wisconsin, she rejoined the business, and in October 2015, Cathy became a partner. She is an integral part of our business's success, harboring a wealth of knowledge while showing up with a smile on her face every day.

Katie, Lenay's granddaughter, takes a detail-oriented and forward-thinking approach for every client that comes across her desk. From personally checking for hours to ensuring payroll is complete in a timely manner, Katie is exactly who you want in your corner for any payroll necessities. With six years of experience under her belt, she continues to grow and exceed expectations, now delving into tax preparation over the last two years.

Kayla Kawka
Kayla, Lenay's granddaughter, joins us from the medical field, where she worked in Pediatrics as an MA. Her expertise lies in organization and stellar communication, helping the office run smoothly and efficiently all year round. She is most likely who you will speak with on the phone, and you might be lucky enough to see Kayla and her daughter, Charlotte, at the front desk during your next visit to the office!
Bookkeeping Support
Amalia Santos
Mali, Lenay's granddaughter, started her journey with Better Bookkeeping during her high school years as a front desk receptionist. After leaving to get her degree in Education, she made the shift to work in the office full-time as a support staff specialist. Her main focus is on bookkeeping and data entry, while also assisting with day-to-day tasks and the business's online presence.
